thalassery ..its nostalgic

Hi people
This is second blog and this time i wnt to tell about my home town Thalassery...Its sad that most of u have heard it recently in the name of political vengeance.. But please dont get misguided by these incidence...Its just a thorn on the beautiful rose plant..

Rolling back to my school days "memories of " Fort, cricket ground and "ice muttai" shop of mammadka cherishes inside...I dont know to explain the feeling it brings into me..It was the best of my days...And sad that its not going to come back...W e used to play at the ground till 6:30 the maximum allowed time and would return in a bus called GALAXY.there was always a fight with the "kili" who later became a good friend...T he whole dirt will be there in the white uniform and the second fight starts at home after that....

E ven though we had a lot of punishment at the school we never felt any grudge with the teachers ...I used to visit them still now and they remeber most of our names.

Jayan sir, Johnson sir, reena teacher, mathew sir are a few...

The whole life style changed after those days ...After moving from thalassery i almost felt me as a foreign in all places...That cool returns back only when the train approaches the tellicherry station...and the journey home was never too long even from thr farthest distance....

For your information i shall tell a few merits and history of my paradise on earth...

Thalassery also known as Tellicherry, is a city on the Malabar Coast of Kerala, in southern India... It is 21 km from the district headquarters at Kannur.. Thalassery municipality has a population just less than 100,000. Thalassery municipality is a part of the urban agglomeration of Kannur.
The geography of Thalassery is adorned with four rivers, hills and a long coast line. One of the four rivers is the M ahe (MAYYAZHI) river. During the British rule, the Mahé river was nicknamed the English Channel because it separated British-ruled Tellicherry from French-ruled Mahé. Muzhappilangad, a 5 km-long pristine beach, is located within 10 km of the town centr..Its a beautiful 5km drive in beach...I dont know why people blab on Calicut beach and Kovalam beach...Its nowhere near this in beauty..

Thalassery is at times referred to as the city of Cricket CaKe And Circuses...

Thalassery is considered to be the birth place of the Indian circus.Keeleri Kunhikannan is a legend in the history of circus. ..

The game of cricket was played in Thalassery much before it was introduced in Culcutta in 1860. The Thalassery Municipal Cricket Ground hosts the Ranji Trophy cricket matches quite often. On this ground, the first ball was bowled in the early 1790s, .

In the year 2002, Thalassery cricket ground celebrated its 200th birthday by hosting a one-day international cricket match between India and Sri Lanka.

On cakes , we have a bakery named Mambally which was established at 1800... It was there two years back and was closed due to some business problems...
On cuisines please ask the government officials transferred to here... Its a place in kerala where you get the best homely food at the most reasonable rates... I would refer Modern hotel and Paris hotel for the meals and RARA AVIS and KINGS PARK for dinner...

Talassery is the seat of the famous Biriyani restaurant, Paris Hotel. This 65-year-old joint possibly serves the best Thalasseri biriyani. It is celebrated in the entire Malabar region. Started by a Ceylon returned Thalassery immigrant soon after World war 11 his son, Abdul Azeez runs the restaurant now.

There are two good evening paks here..The first one is Overburrys Folly..Which is situated at the backside of SAI(Sports Authority Of India)...Its A cool place which brings out the lonely person inside you when you go there....Its a calm place which helps you see the Arabian sea from a good height...

"A TOP VIEW OF FOLLY"

Near folly...beside the sea is my school..

Thalassery Fort is situated near my school ,,It was built by Tippu sultan and have heard that the cave isnside the fort would connect to Kannur fort via underground..W e were frequent visitors of the two caves and it still brings a curiosity inside...

There is also a pier called as thalaassery kadalpalam built by British ...

Eventhough its a small place in area the amount of business happening here is unbeleivable...The number of shops raised in the last few years will be some multiples of the old shops here...T he textile business is the most prominent and updating in the latest trend on dress is too fast....

Talking on people , you would feel the love in the air... You would never feel the uneasiness that you would feeel at trivandrum or kollam...I ensure you..they wont cheat you on any matter....

So if you get any chance to have a visit dont miss it... Its a good place on earth...You will love it..Bring a camera also...

i shall try attaching some pics i have taken few months back...

BYE Take care/...
